Using mouthwash only gets rid of bad breath for a minute. If you use mouthwash, look for an antiseptic and a plaque-preventing one with a seal from the American Dental Association or their website. #2: Continue to prevent bad breath
The honest thing is that some people only brush their teeth for a few minutes, which doesn't cut it. To properly clean all the surfaces of your mouth, you should brush for at least 5 minutes and twice a day. Also, remember to brush your tongue, also because bacteria love to linger. It's also important to floss because brushing alone won't remove harmful plaque and particles that can get stuck in your teeth.

When you get a bad-smelling breath, you don't use your throat the same way you do when you talk. When you talk, you tend to bring out the odors from the back of your mouth, which simply breathing doesn't do.
